Wooden Wardrobe Story

Wooden Wardrobe women’s clothing boutique, located in historic downtown Galena, began as a joint venture between Laurie Digman and her mom, Judy Medley. Established in 1996, the shop was originally known as The Klassy Lady. When Judy retired in 2005, the name was changed to the Wooden Wardrobe.

Why call the shop Wooden Wardrobe? Enter Laurie’s husband Jerry. Following years in the construction and fine woodworking business, Jerry had turned to honing his skills in woodworking, producing handcrafted custom furniture and cabinets.

Visitors to the Wooden Wardrobe marvel at Jerry’s finely crafted wardrobe closets and display cabinets that provide a homelike presentation for many of the items merchandised in the store.

Laurie searches markets across the country to find trend-setting women’s clothing and accessories with lines from fashion-forward brands such as Tribal sportswear, French Dressing and JAG Jeans, Vanesha Angora, Comfy USA, Montana Clothing Co., Yest, Lily, Stephanie Dawn and Oilily handbags.

“We carry dressy-casual clothing for everyday use, like a fun day out shopping, wearing to work or a night on the town,” Laurie explains. “Many customers are looking for clothes that don’t wrinkle – comfortable travel or vacation wear that are both interchangeable and easily packed.”
